75 sued over arson to July memorial gate

GOPALGANJ, Aug 6: A man named Emon Islam filed a case against 75 people with Tungipara Police Station on Wednesday night for setting fire to the '36 July' memorial gate built in Tungipara Upazila of the district, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the July Uprising.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tungipara Police Station Md Ayub Ali confirmed the incident and said that the memorial gate was built on Saturday by Tungipara Municipal Chhatra Dal and Swechchhasebak Dal. 

On the same day, miscreants set fire to the gate late at night and partially burned the lower part. The case was filed against 35 named people including Tungipara Upazila Chhatra League Joint General Secretary Sajedur Rahman Sohan and 40 unnamed ones.

The OC also said that the operation to arrest the accused is ongoing. The accused will be brought under the law soon.
