Gas crisis, price hike spark 11-party alliance protest in Dhaka

The 11-party alliance staged a sit-in in Dhaka on Thursday protesting the gas and fuel shortage crisis, 'ghost' electricity bills, deteriorating law and order situation and the soaring prices of basic necessities.
The 11-party alliance also demanded inquiry into the Maheshkhali LNG terminal, uninterrupted energy supply to industries and strong action against corruption and inefficiency in the energy sector.
The important leaders of the alliance including the President of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Col. Oli Ahmad Bir Bikram, Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Mia Golam Parwar and spokesperson of JAGPA Engineer Rashid Pradhan were present in the protest programme.
The sit-in began at 11AM in Paltan, resulting in heavy traffic congestion near Paltan Zero Point. The alliance leaders and activists were found found chanting slogans with banners.
In this protest, the 11-party alliance declared a 10-point demands that include inquiry into the allegation of overbilling, compensation of consumers who suffer from such practices, termination of excessive electricity billing, transparency in billing system, stopping of billing without supply of gas, increasing the domestic production of gas and formulating a long term national energy policy.
The 11-party alliance also demanded inquiry into the Maheshkhali LNG terminal, uninterrupted energy supply to industries and strong action against corruption and inefficiency in the energy sector.
