Flood threat in 3 divisions

There is a possibility of short-term flood in some areas in three divisions-- Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur-- in the next 24 to 48 hours as there is a heavy rainfall and hill runoff in the upstream areas, warned the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC).

According to the FFWC's latest bulletin, the water level in the rivers Surma, Kushiyara, Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar has risen and these four rivers Surma, Kushiyara, Teesta and Dudhkumar will exceed danger level in the next one to two days.

In this regard, some areas in Sylhet, Sunamganj, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Kurigram and Gaibandha can face short-term flood.

Furthermore, it was mentioned that the water level in the Someswari, Bhugai and Kangsha rivers will rise and this may cause inundation in some areas in Sherpur, Mymensingh and Netrokona.

However, it is expected that the Brahmaputra-Jamuna will be continued rising for the next five days. Besides, the water level in the Ganges-Padma basin and some rivers like Gomti, Muhuri, Selonia, Feni and Halda in Chattogram division will also increase in the next few days.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) predicted that there will be light to heavy rainfall along with strong wind over all eight divisions for the next five days.
