Bangladesh face uphill task after Wyllie ton in Darwin

Teague Wyllie struck a commanding century as Cricket Australia XI overturned a difficult start to take a 92-run first-innings lead over Bangladesh on the second day of their three-day warm-up match in Darwin on Friday.

Wyllie made 130 from 177 balls as the Cricket Australia XI were bowled out for 355 at Marrara Oval, having resumed the day at 51 for two in reply to Bangladesh's first-innings 263.

Bangladesh then lost two wickets in the final session to close on 19 for two, leaving them 73 runs behind with one day remaining. Campbell Thompson took both wickets, finishing the day with two for 10 from three overs.

Wyllie's innings was the defining contribution of the day, rescuing the home side after Bangladesh's bowlers had reduced them to 139 for five.

Kurtis Patterson had earlier steadied the innings with 53 from 91 deliveries before Hasan Mahmud bowled him to claim his fourth wicket of the innings.

Wyllie then joined Jake Doran and the pair produced the decisive partnership of the match so far. They added 167 for the sixth wicket, carrying the Cricket Australia XI from 139 for five to 306 before Doran fell for 76.

Doran faced 102 balls and struck 10 fours, while Wyllie continued to attack after reaching his half-century. He brought up his century from 131 balls and eventually became the last man dismissed, caught at deep extra cover off Syed Khaled Ahmed. Wyllie's 130 included 16 fours.

Bangladesh's bowlers had made an encouraging start to the innings, but the extended Wyllie-Doran stand allowed the hosts to move well beyond the tourists' total.

Hasan Mahmud was Bangladesh's best bowler, taking four for 42 from 19 overs, including five maidens. 

Taskin Ahmed claimed two wickets for 56 runs from 15 overs, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz also took two wickets. Khaled Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain took one wicket apiece. Taijul Islam did not bowl after injuring his finger while batting in Bangladesh's first innings.

The Cricket Australia XI's innings featured several important partnerships after Bangladesh had made early inroads. Sam Konstas was dismissed for one and Campbell Kellaway for a duck, leaving the home side just one run for two wickets at one stage. Josh Philippe made 24 before falling with the total on 53, while Jack Clayton contributed 48 before Bangladesh struck again.

Patterson's 53 and the subsequent Wyllie-Doran partnership changed the momentum of the innings. The hosts reached 355 in 87.2 overs.

Bangladesh's second innings got off to another difficult start.

Shadman Islam was caught for six off Thompson with the total on 13, and Mominul Haque was bowled for six in the following over, leaving Bangladesh 19 for two after five overs.

Tanzid Hasan was unbeaten on seven from 13 balls at the close.

Bangladesh's position was made more difficult by the failure of their top order in both innings. Their first innings had ended at 263 after Mehidy Hasan Miraz's unbeaten 109.

After two days, it is the Cricket Australia XI who have the advantage, with Bangladesh needing a strong batting effort on the final day to erase the deficit and give themselves a chance of avoiding defeat.
