NARAYANGANJ, Aug 8: The lawmakers representing Narayanganj’s five parliamentary constituencies have expressed their firm commitment to work together with the business community to develop the industrial and commercial hub of Narayanganj.

A courtesy meeting and exchange of views between the MPs from the five constituencies and the board of directors of the Narayanganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry was held on Saturday afternoon at the conference room of the chamber’s office in Narayanganj.

The meeting was chaired by Mustafizur Rahman Bhuiyan Dipu, MP from Narayanganj-1 and president of the Narayanganj Chamber. Also present were Advocate Abul Kalam, MP from Narayanganj-5; Azharul Islam Mannan, MP from Narayanganj-3; Advocate Abdullah Al Amin, MP from Narayanganj-4; former chamber president and BCB director Masuduzzaman Masud; and Abul Kausar Asha, political secretary to the Narayanganj-5 MP, among others.

Narayanganj-2 MP Nazrul Islam Azad, who could not attend the meeting due to illness, joined the discussion by phone.

Speaking at the meeting, Narayanganj-2 MP Nazrul Islam Azad said, “He has solidarity with the business community of Narayanganj. We will work shoulder to shoulder with the chamber”.

“Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working to build a beautiful, prosperous and progressive Bangladesh. As his fellow travellers in this endeavour, we also want to stand beside you and work together with you,” he told the business leaders.

Narayanganj-3 MP Azaharul Islam Mannan said, “We the five MPs will work together to bring Narayanganj under the metropolitan city and metro rail networks”.

“The country cannot move forward unless the business community takes the lead. In every respect, Narayanganj comes second only to Dhaka, the capital. So why should Narayanganj lag behind?

Mustafizur Rahman Bhuiyan Dipu, MP from Narayanganj-1 and president of the Narayanganj Chamber, said many problems could be resolved if all the MPs from Narayanganj work together.

“One problem is that many industrialists do not want to become members of the chamber. But many problems cannot be resolved unless everyone comes together under one umbrella,” he said.

He said, “We, the business community, want to move forward with your advice and guidance of MPs. We want to build a better Narayanganj.”
