BNP Acting Secretary General and Adviser to the Prime Minister Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi stated on Tuesday (October 27) that recent public remarks by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) regarding the potential reinstatement of "crossfire" have caused embarrassment for the government and triggered public concern.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a free medical camp organized by Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal outside the BNP central office in Nayapaltan to mark its 48th founding anniversary, Rizvi emphasized that extrajudicial measures are unnecessary to combat crime when sufficient legal frameworks exist.

"Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is committed to building a humane Bangladesh," Rizvi said. "In this context, statements from the top police official suggesting a return to crossfire raise severe concerns and put the government in an embarrassing position."

Rizvi noted that Bangladesh possesses adequate legal provisions to curb criminal activity. He asserted that strict enforcement of existing laws is sufficient to bring perpetrators to justice, emphasizing that the rule of law cannot be established through extrajudicial means and that law enforcement must operate strictly within legal parameters.

Recalling the party's history, the BNP leader stated that the administration assumed governance following seventeen years of opposition against enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and authoritarian rule. Consequently, ensuring the rule of law and maintaining a safe, humane environment for citizens remains a paramount responsibility.

Inaugurating the medical camp, Rizvi also urged the youth to act responsibly and play a constructive role in national development. He directed party activists and young citizens to refrain strictly from illegal activities such as tender manipulation and extortion, ensuring their actions foster public trust rather than fear.
