Biman flight lands in Dhaka after 28-hour ordeal in Rome

Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ BG-306 flight landed in Dhaka on Sunday after being stranded in Rome for nearly 28 hours due to a technical fault, bringing relief to 259 passengers who had endured prolonged delays and uncertainty.
The flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12:30pm, Biman Bangladesh Airlines General Manager (Public Relations) Bosra Islam confirmed.
She said the aircraft departed Rome for Dhaka after engineers repaired the technical fault and made it fit to fly.
BG-306 departed Toronto for Dhaka on Thursday. A technical fault was detected during its stopover at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport on Friday.
As the problem could not be fixed immediately despite prolonged efforts, the flight was cancelled and passengers were asked to disembark.
A Biman engineering team carrying necessary spare parts and equipment reached Rome at around 11:15pm Bangladesh time on Saturday. The engineers later completed the repairs, allowing the aircraft to resume its journey to Dhaka.
The prolonged wait, however, caused significant inconvenience to passengers. Many Bangladeshi passengers were not allowed to leave the airport by local immigration authorities because they did not have Italian visas.
Passengers alleged that they had to remain inside the aircraft for a long time after the fault was detected. Although a lounge was later arranged, there was not enough space for everyone, forcing some passengers to spend the night on chairs or the floor.
Some passengers also complained of delays in receiving food and essential medicines.
After the prolonged wait and uncertainty, the passengers finally reached Dhaka on Sunday afternoon, ending their ordeal in Rome.
