Houthis attack Saudi oil facility, fire reported

Yemen’s Houthi group launched a drone attack on a Saudi Aramco oil facility in Jizan on Sunday, with a fire reported at the site, Al Jazeera reported.

Houthi-run Al Masirah TV said the group targeted the facility in response to Saudi drone strikes in Yemen’s Saada and Hajjah provinces, reports Al Jazeera. 

Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry confirmed that an attack targeted a facility at the Saudi Aramco refinery in Jizan, near the Yemeni border.

The ministry said the fire that broke out early Sunday was extinguished by firefighters and that no casualties were reported.

The Houthis also carried out an attack in Saudi Arabia on Friday. Saudi intelligence sources subsequently said the group was preparing for a major attack.

Maj Gen Turki Al-Maliki, spokesman for the Saudi-led military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government, said the Friday attack in the southern Najran province injured seven Saudis, one Yemeni, two Egyptians and one Pakistani.

The coalition accused the Houthis of indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas in violation of international humanitarian law. No immediate response from the Houthis or Iran was reported.
