‘Avengers: Doomsday’ to put Captain America through hell

The story of Captain America in Marvel’s highly anticipated film Avengers: Doomsday will be “brutal” and challenging, Hollywood star Chris Evans has hinted.

Speaking during a Q&A session at Fan Expo in Boston, Evans discussed his character Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, and the filmmaking style of directors Anthony and Joe Russo.

“Russo Brothers love putting Steve Rogers through the wringer. They love beating him up, knocking him down and having him get back up. They see that as the mark of a true hero. So they always find new ways to put him in danger. But this time, the experience was truly brutal,” Evans said.

The upcoming film will bring together several popular Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes, including legacy Avengers, the X-Men, the Thunderbolts and the Fantastic Four, who will unite against the main villain, Doctor Doom. Oscar-winning actor Robert Downey Jr will portray the character.

At Comic-Con 2026 last month, directors Anthony and Joe Russo said they became convinced that Downey was the right choice for Doctor Doom after hearing his voice. They were particularly impressed by the voice he created for delivering dialogue while wearing Doctor Doom’s mask.

Directed by the Russo Brothers, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theatres on December 18, if all goes as planned.
