BSD stages protest in Barishal over power crisis

BARISHAL, Aug 11: Leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) took out a protest rally from Ashwini Kumar Hall premises on Tuesday at around 10:30 am demanding an end to load shedding and a review of the country’s energy policy. The procession paraded through major city roads.
Later, a rally was held presided over by BSD Central Committee Member and Barishal District Coordinator Dr Monisha Chakraborty. District Member Shahidul Islam conducted the rally.
Speakers alleged that prolonged power cuts, often lasting 10 to 12 hours a day, have disrupted daily life across the country, including Barishal. They blamed the crisis on Bangladesh’s dependence on imported fuel and called for greater use of domestic gas resources, particularly the Bhola gas field.
The leaders also demanded withdrawal of increased electricity and gas prices, opposed privatisation in the power and energy sectors, and urged investment in renewable energy.
