Five killed in road mishaps in two districts

Five people were killed and two injured in separate road accidents in Galachipa Upazila of Patuakhali District and Naogaon District on Saturday.

GALACHIPA, PATUAKHALI: Four people were killed on Saturday night when a bus collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Patuakhali highway near the Payra Petrol Pump in the Bashak Bazar area in Galachipa Upazila of the district, police said. 

The deceased were auto-rickshaw driver Qaiyum Peda, 50, of Gontakhali Village, Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, 28, and Shilpi Rani, 40, and her 22-year-old pregnant daughter, Bithi Rani, of Boubazar area. They were returning to Galachipa after taking Bithi to Patuakhali for a medical checkup.

Police in Patuakhali have detained the Imran Paribahan bus involved in the accident. Galachipa police said legal proceedings will be handled by Patuakhali Sadar Police Station because the accident occurred within its jurisdiction.

NAOGAON: A Roads and Highways Department (RHD) sub-assistant engineer, Md Rasheduzzaman, was killed and his seven-year-old daughter seriously injured on Saturday night when a truck collided head-on with their CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Hapaniya area, on the Naogaon-Rajshahi regional highway.

The accident occurred around 9 pm as Rasheduzzaman, his wife and daughter were travelling from Naogaon town to Mohadevpur. Rasheduzzaman, who worked at the department’s Mohadevpur-Patnitala sub-division office, died on the spot, police said. 

Abul Mansur Ahmed, executive engineer of the Naogaon RHD said, his daughter, Rumaisa Zaman, was taken for treatment in serious condition. His wife was not seriously injured.
