2,583 MMcfd of Gas produced in 24hrs, uses 67pc capacity

Bangladesh produced 2,583.3 million cubic feet per day (MMcfd) of natural gas in 24 hours, using around 67 per cent of its total production and supply capacity, according to Petrobangla data.

Of the total output, domestic gas fields accounted for 1,599.9 MMcfd, while 983.4 MMcfd came from imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) after regasification.

The figures were reported in Petrobangla’s daily gas and condensate production and distribution report for September 20-21, released on Tuesday.

According to the report, the country’s total gas production and supply capacity stands at 3,854 MMcfd, against actual output of 2,583.3 MMcfd.

International oil companies (IOCs) were the largest contributors to domestic gas production, supplying 875.2 MMcfd. Chevron’s Bibiyana gas field alone produced 706.2 MMcfd.

State-run Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Ltd (BGFCL) produced 481.8 MMcfd, while Sylhet Gas Fields Company Ltd (SGFCL) contributed 139.6 MMcfd. Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (BAPEX) produced 103.5 MMcfd.

Meanwhile, 983.4 MMcfd of gas was supplied from LNG operated by state-run Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL).

Although the country’s LNG regasification capacity stands at 1,100 MMcfd, actual supply remained below that level, according to the report.

The gas was produced through 119 producing wells, which collectively have a production capacity of 3,854 MMcfd.

Alongside gas production, the country produced a total of 5,596.6 tonnes of condensate during the period.
