The Canadian government has updated its travel advisory for Bangladesh, warning of the risk of political tensions, demonstrations and clashes.

The advisory, updated on August 10, continues to place Bangladesh under a “high degree of caution” level. It warns that protests, clashes and public unrest could occur at any time amid political tensions, judicial proceedings and political gatherings.

Canadians in Bangladesh have been advised to avoid large gatherings and demonstrations and follow instructions from local authorities. They have also been urged to monitor local media and remain prepared for changes in the situation.

The advisory continues to recommend avoiding all travel to the Chittagong Hill Tracts due to the risks of political violence, kidnapping and clashes.

The Canadian government has also advised travellers to check its website for the latest official information before travelling to Bangladesh.
