Bangladesh take command against Australia in Darwin test

Bangladesh continued their remarkable performance on Australian soil, taking an 88-run lead over Australia by tea on the second day of the first Test in Darwin. Replying to Australia’s first-innings total of 198, Bangladesh reached 286 for three after 74 overs.

Bangladesh added 105 runs for the loss of one wicket in 27 overs during the second session. Tanzid Hasan scored his maiden Test century, while Najmul Hossain Shanto remained unbeaten on 79 and Mushfiqur Rahim was batting on 26.

Resuming the day on 96 for one, Bangladesh added 85 runs in the opening session before Mominul Haque was dismissed for 49. Tanzid, who had reached his half-century before lunch, put Bangladesh ahead after the interval. He shared a 93-run partnership with Shanto before becoming the first Bangladesh batter to score a Test century in Australia. Tanzid reached his hundred from 188 balls and was eventually dismissed for 101 off 197 deliveries, including eight fours and a six.
