Bangladesh finished the first session of the second day of the Darwin Test 17 runs behind Australia, reaching 181 for 2 at lunch. Tanzid Hasan Tamim remained unbeaten on 74, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was not out on 28.

Resuming at 96 for 1 after Australia were bowled out for 198 in their first innings, Bangladesh made a strong start on Friday. Tanzid and Mominul Haque added 102 runs for the second wicket before the partnership was broken.

Mominul fell for 49 off 95 balls, having struck eight boundaries. He edged a fuller delivery from Josh Hazlewood that was slightly outside off stump to Alex Carey behind the stumps.

The dismissal came after Bangladesh had moved past 100, ending a crucial partnership. Mominul's departure left Bangladesh 138 for 2 after opener Shadman Islam had earlier been dismissed for 36.

Tanzid, meanwhile, reached his first Test half-century in Australia, bringing up the milestone from 102 balls. He is now closing in on his maiden Test century, while Shanto has looked composed since joining him at the crease.

At lunch, Bangladesh were 181 for 2, still 17 runs behind Australia's first-innings total.
