Gazipur road repairs speed up for PM visit

Dhaka-Kishoreganj highway is under repair and beautification works ahead of PM Tarique Rahman’s Kishoreganj visit on Sunday.
Authorities are clearing weeds at dangerous curves, repairing road reflectors, filling potholes with brickchips and sand, and installing lightings on the Fakir Majnu Shah Bridge.
Rajendrapur to Gazipur to Tok in Kapasia roads are under maintenance due to PM’s visit.
It was seen that over a hundred male and female laborers were seen working on different sections of the Rajendrapur-Tok road on Friday. They were filling potholes, applying pitch, and trimming bushes along both sides of the highway.
At Borhor New Market in Kapasia, contractor representative Bachchu Mia said, "There are several dangerous bends on this road. We are clearing weeds to improve visibility."
Local BNP leader Adv Md Iqbal Hossain Sheikh said party activists will welcome the Prime Minister. "The lights on Fakir Majnu Shah Bridge will be functional, and turning points are being widened and cleared," he added.
The Dhaka-Gazipur-Kapasia-Tok-Kishoreganj route is one of the shortest connections between the capital and Kishoreganj. However, the narrow road section from Rajendrapur to Kapasia poses severe risks to commuters, often leading to traffic bottlenecks and accidents.
Jaman Munshi, Director of Jolsiri Paribahan, welcomed the repair drive, noting that nearly 100 buses operate on this route daily. "The road condition near Katiadi has been terrible. It is a relief that repairs are taking place for the Prime Minister's journey," he said.
Inspection along the 20-kilometer stretch from Kapasia to Tok revealed multiple teams of workers filling rainwater-filled potholes with brickchips, sand, and thin coats of pitch. Heavy machinery was also deployed near Amraid Market to drain stagnant water.
Gazipur Roads and Highways Department (RHD) Sub-Divisional Engineer Saidur Rahman confirmed that road visual reflectors are being repainted and foliage cleared from sharp bends to ensure safe travel.
Kapasia LGED Engineer Md Sohel Rana noted that there are at least 15 high-risk curves along the Kapasia-Tok stretch currently being addressed.
