Land Minister Md Mizanur Rahman Minu on Saturday inaugurated a tube-well installation programme of MASTUL Foundation in different areas of Rajshahi to ensure access to safe drinking water for disadvantaged and marginalised communities.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the minister said access to safe and clean water is a fundamental human right. He appreciated the foundation’s initiative, saying that ensuring safe drinking water would help protect public health and improve people’s quality of life.

MASTUL Foundation Chief Executive Officer and former senior secretary Mohammad Akmal Hossain Azad said areas facing shortages of safe drinking water in different parts of Rajshahi would be identified and tube-wells installed there in phases. The initiative would expand access to clean water among disadvantaged communities and help reduce the risk of waterborne diseases, he said.

Local elected representatives, government officials, community leaders, media representatives and residents attended the inauguration ceremony. The event also featured the foundation’s ‘Zakat Self-Reliance’ programme and nationwide tree plantation initiative.

Following the ceremony, the tube-well installation programme was formally launched. MASTUL Foundation, a government-registered non-profit humanitarian organisation, said it has been working for more than a decade for disadvantaged people and children through various welfare initiatives, including relief distribution, tree plantation, livelihood support, tube-well installation, mosque reconstruction and its ‘Mehmankhana’ free meal programme.

The foundation also said it has provided humanitarian assistance in Türkiye, Gaza and Sudan. It operates a madrasa, shelter home and orphanage in Hazaribagh, Dhaka. According to the organisation, donations, Zakat and Sadaqah made to MASTUL Foundation are eligible for applicable income tax benefits under relevant National Board of Revenue (NBR) regulations.
