Bangladesh’s stock market fell again on Thursday after gaining in the previous session, with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) seeing declines in both its indices and trading turnover.
Trading began on a positive note, with most stocks gaining and the main index rising. However, the trend reversed after 11:30 AM as more companies moved into the losing column.
At the close, 185 companies on the DSE saw their share and unit prices fall, while 155 advanced and 48 remained unchanged.
The DSE’s benchmark DSEX index fell 17 points to 5,578. The DSE-30 index dropped 10 points to 2,112, while the DSES index declined three points to 1,115.
Turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 756.31 crore, down Tk 88.38 crore from Tk 844.69 crore in the previous session.
IPDC Finance led the turnover chart with shares worth Tk 23.61 crore changing hands, followed by GQ Ball Pen at Tk 21.21 crore and Square Pharmaceuticals at Tk 18.91 crore.
Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed higher, with 85 of 187 traded companies advancing, 74 declining and 28 remaining unchanged. The CASPI gained 41 points, while turnover fell to Tk 16.72 crore from Tk 24.33 crore in the previous session.
