Community Bank supports icddr,b project on HPV vaccination for policewomen

Community Bank Bangladesh PLC has extended financial support to icddr,b for a project aimed at raising awareness and assessing the acceptance and barriers to HPV vaccination among female police personnel to help prevent cervical cancer in Bangladesh.

The initiative, supported under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, will focus on adult women in the organised workforce, who are often left outside existing vaccination programmes targeting mainly adolescents.

Under the project, 188 female police personnel aged between 18 and 45 will be enrolled from the Armed Forces Police Battalion (AFPB) in Dhaka.

Led by Dr Rizwana Khan, Assistant Scientist at icddr,b, the project will be implemented in seven phases, including ethical approval, baseline surveys, awareness campaigns, vaccination, monitoring and evaluation, and dissemination of findings.

Besides HPV vaccination, the initiative will promote menstrual hygiene management and raise awareness about women’s health and wellbeing.

A cheque handover ceremony was held at icddr,b on Thursday. Bangladesh Police Inspector General and Community Bank Chairman Md Ali Hossain Fakir, the bank’s Managing Director Mohammed Emtiaz Uddin and icddr,b Executive Director Dr Tahmeed Ahmed attended the event.

Ali Hossain Fakir said, "the health and wellbeing of policewomen should remain a priority and expressed hope that the initiative would create a workplace-based vaccination model that could be replicated more widely."

Mohammed Emtiaz Uddin said, the bank was proud to support the initiative and would continue investing in projects aimed at creating a lasting social impact.

Dr Tahmeed Ahmed thanked Community Bank’s management for its support, saying the project could generate evidence on workplace-based vaccination and potentially contribute to future health policy.
