Habibul Bashar marks 54th birthday

Former Bangladesh captain and chief selector Habibul Bashar Sumon celebrates his birthday today, receiving wishes from teammates, fans and cricket lovers as he enters a new year of life.

Born in 1972 in Kushtia, Habibul Bashar belongs to the category of pioneers of Bangladeshi cricket. He was the captain who led the national team to its first Test win over Zimbabwe in 2005. Under his captaincy, Bangladesh also secured memorable ODI victories against Australia, India, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

This right-handed player participated in 50 Test matches and 111 ODIs for Bangladesh. In post-retirement years, he stayed connected with cricket and worked for many years as the chief selector of the BCB.

Now Habibul Bashar is working on the development of Bangladeshi cricket as the head of women’s section of the BCB.
