Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 488 people and filed 55 cases during its regular anti-crime drives across the capital in the past 24 hours.
The DMP Media and Public Relations Division disclosed the information in a press release on Tuesday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of the DMP Media and Public Relations Division Niaz Mehedi said police conducted drives in different areas under various police stations and arrested 488 people while recovering weapons, drugs and other items.
Legal proceedings against the detainees are underway, he said.
Of those arrested, 30 were arrested by the Ramna division, 33 by Lalbagh, 47 by Wari, 61 by Motijheel, 59 by Tejgaon, 153 by Mirpur, 49 by Gulshan, 41 by Uttara, 10 by the Detective Branch and five by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.
During the drives, police recovered two foreign-made pistols, two magazines and 12 rounds of ammunition, 11 kg of cannabis, 16,222 yaba tablets, a switchgear knife, two handcuffs, a toy pistol, an electric tracker, two walkie-talkies, a weighing machine, 19 mobile phones, 28 SIM cards of different operators and Tk 1,400 in cash.
Police also rescued a victim during the operations.
