Today, August 21, marks the 22nd anniversary of the grenade attack on an Awami League rally in Dhaka.
On this day in 2004, a grenade attack was carried out at a rally on Bangabandhu Avenue, where then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina was the chief guest. The attack killed 24 people, including Ivy Rahman, the then Awami League women’s affairs secretary, and injured several hundred others.
Two decades after the deadly attack, the trial in the case has yet to be completed.
