New technology university planned in Basila: State Minister

A new technology university will be established in Basila, Mohammadpur, to prepare students for a technology-driven future, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said.
He made the announcement while speaking as the chief guest at a reception for students who achieved outstanding results in the 2026 SSC examinations at Firoza Bashar Ideal College in Basila on Saturday.
Bobby said steps were being taken to develop Mohammadpur as an education hub in Dhaka, with the proposed university being part of the initiative.
“We are standing at the threshold of a completely new era. With AI and other technologies, many traditional professions will disappear while new professions and opportunities will emerge. Almost everything will become technology-dependent,” he said.
He said the proposed university would provide students with opportunities to develop skills in modern technologies and urged them to prepare themselves from now on to keep pace with the technology-driven world.
At the event, Bobby also announced a governance competition for students from Classes 8 to 12. He said the first prize would be more than Tk 100,000, with prizes also available for the second- and third-place winners.
The winners will also have the opportunity to work as “shadow ministers” and “shadow MPs” for a day, he said.
A total of 266 students from Firoza Bashar Ideal College passed the SSC examination this year, he said, adding that the college ranked second in Mohammadpur in terms of a 100 per cent pass rate.
The event was attended by BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Ataur Rahman Dhali, Mohammadpur Thana Primary Education Officer Nair Sultana, Secondary Education Officer Md Raju Ahmed and others.
