Sufi Sunni leaders reject extremism, terrorism

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 23: Sufi Sunni Muslims strongly reject extremism, terrorism and violence committed in the name of Islam, Pir Sabir Shah said on Sunday, calling for greater emphasis on the religion’s teachings of peace, justice and humanity. He made the remarks while addressing a colourful procession organised to mark Eid-e-Miladunnabi, birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). 

Shah said Allah Almighty had chosen Islam as a way of life to liberate humanity from extremism, injustice, oppression and wrongdoing.

Acts of violence and terrorism, he said, had no place in the teachings of Islam and should not be used to justify actions carried out in its name. The procession was organised by the Dhaka branch of Anjuman-e-Rahmani Ahmadiyya Sunniya Trust in collaboration with Gausia Committee Bangladesh-Dhaka. A large number of devotees from Dhaka and different parts of the country took part in the programme.

The procession began at Mohammadpur Qaderia Tayyebiya Kamil Madrasa and passed through Taj Mahal Road, Krishi Market, Ring Road, Shia Mosque, Mohammadpur Bus Stand, Sat Masjid Road, Dhanmondi Road No. 27, Mirpur Road, Asad Gate and College Gate before concluding at Shyamoli Club Ground.

Participants carried colourful banners and posters featuring the Kalema and various Islamic messages. The procession filled the streets with chants of ‘Nara-e-Takbir’ and ‘Nara-e-Risalat’, while Hamd, Naat-e-Rasul and Ghazal performances added to the religious and festive atmosphere.

A discussion and mahfil were later held at Shyamoli Club Ground, bringing together religious leaders and devotees. Syed Muhammad Kashem Shah (M.J.A.) and Syed Aqib Ahmed Shah (M.J.A.) attended the programme as special guests.
