A 22-year-old woman was found hanging at a residence in Chattogram’s Khulshi area on Monday, four months after her marriage. Her husband allegedly fled after taking her body to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
The deceased was identified as Tanzina Akter, daughter of Md Shah Alam of Ticket Printing Press Colony in Jhautala, Khulshi. Her husband, Md Akash, 26, is a resident of Gaibandha.
According to Tanzina’s family, the couple had been having disputes over family matters and money. The family alleged that Akash had been pressuring Tanzina to bring money from her parents for his business and had subjected her to physical and mental abuse.
The family also alleged that Tanzina was murdered and her body was later hanged to make it appear as suicide.
Police said Akash recovered Tanzina’s hanging body from a house near the Jhautala Ticket Printing Press Colony Mosque on Monday morning and took it to CMCH. He allegedly left the body outside the hospital’s emergency department and fled.
Khulshi Police Station Sub-Inspector Monotosh Biswas said police visited the scene after receiving the report and later went to the hospital.
He said the body was kept at the CMCH morgue for autopsy. Police are investigating the allegations made by the family, while legal proceedings are underway.
The family has demanded a proper investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
