Garment workers attempting to gather in the Rupnagar area of Mirpur in the capital on Thursday dispersed after noticing police presence.
Rupnagar Police Station OC AB Siddique confirmed the development on Thursday.
According to sources, around 3,000 to 4,000 workers from the Rising Group's Shialbari-area factories joined work in the morning. However, at around 9:40AM, they stopped working and came out of the factories, attempting to gather on the road in front of the premises.
AB Siddique said some workers tried to assemble but dispersed after noticing the police presence. No untoward incident occurred, he added.
He said the workers had been working since morning before the senior management of Rising Group declared a holiday and allowed them to leave. Some workers then attempted to gather and stage a protest.
Meanwhile, a large number of police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Special Reserve Battalion (SRB) personnel were seen deployed in Mirpur-10 and Mirpur-11 areas since morning. However, traffic movement in the areas remained normal.
