UAMCH was launched to serve national needs, but is now extremely neglected: Jamaat Ameer

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of Opposition in the parliament Dr Shafiqul Rahman has called for urgent steps to address the shortage of medicines and medical equipment at the Government Unani and Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital (UAMCH) in the capital's Mirpur.

He made the call while speaking at an interaction with teachers and students of the institution on Thursday. Earlier, he visited different departments of the college and hospital to observe its overall activities and facilities.

Dr Shafiqul Rahman also handed over a supply of medicines and medical equipment to the principal of UAMCH.

He said the college and hospital was established to meet an important national need but is now suffering from serious neglect.

"Although the institution was established to serve the needs of the country, it is now extremely neglected," he pointed out.

The Jamaat chief stressed the need to address UAMCH's longstanding problems, including shortages of medicines and essential medical equipment.

He assured the teachers and students that he would stand by them in their efforts to resolve the institution's problems and realise their legitimate demands.

As the lawmaker representing the area, Dr Shafiqul Rahman said he would work alongside the teachers and students to improve the institution and protect its interests.

He expressed hope that necessary measures would be taken to strengthen the college and hospital and ensure better facilities for students, teachers and patients.

The interaction was attended by teachers, students and officials of UAMCH.
