Three fake DB arrested in Noagaon

Police have arrested three members of a robbery gang in Manda of Naogaon for impersonating Detective Branch (DB) police officers. 

A handcuff, stolen gold jewellery and mobile phones were recovered from their possession during the arrest.

The incident took place at Paraitungi village in Bishnupur Union of Manda upazila on Saturday afternoon (August 29).

The arrested suspects have been identified as Md Manik Hossain, 34, son of Mofiz Uddin of Chapra village in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur; Md Enamul Haque, son of deceased Tozammel Haque of Dakshin Daudpur village; and Md Mahbub Hasan Munna, 39, son of Md Yusuf Khalifa of Muktarpur village in Phulbari upazila.

According to police, the suspects forcibly entered the house of Bipul Kumar at Paraitungi village on Saturday afternoon, identifying themselves as DB police officers. They handcuffed Bipul’s father Shukumar Chandra and uncle Sabuj Kumar. They then allegedly threatened the female members of the family and looted cash, gold jewellery and mobile phones while pretending to search the house.

Sensing that their activities were suspicious, the homeowner and local residents chased them. The suspects reached Shimla Bazar in Bagmara upazila of neighbouring Rajshahi district, where local residents surrounded and detained them before reportedly beating them.

Acting on information, Manda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Khorshed Alam arrived at the scene with a team of officers. The suspects were later rescued and taken into police custody with the assistance of Bagmara police.

Naogaon Police Superintendent Mohammad Tarikul Islam said, "the stolen items had been recovered from the arrested suspects. A regular case was filed against them at Manda Police Station on Sunday morning (August 30), and they are being processed for appearance before a court."
