BNP leader among four held in Pirojpur extortion case

PIROJPUR, Aug 30: Police have arrested four people, including Kadamtala Union BNP President and former UP chairman Abdus Salam Sheikh, 52, from different areas of the union under Pirojpur Sadar Upazila on Sunday in an extortion case filed by Zakir Hossain of Kumarkhali area with Pirojpur Sadar Police Station (PS) on Friday. 

Other arrestees are Union Chhatra Dal President Hasib Sheikh 27, Union Sramik Dal Secretary Raju Sheikh, 32, and former Union Sramik Dal president Ahsaful, 37.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the PS Md Shariful Islam confirmed the news. Sand filling works are on in the site.

Local sources said Salam Sheikh and his men demanded Tk 10 lakh to the contractor of the under-construction site of an electricity sub-station at Kadamtala Union. On refusal, Salam Sheikh and his men vandalised the sand filling line’s pipes and other equipments in the site. In this connection, the case was filed.
