AI Can Boost SME Productivity

Dear Sir,

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is often associated with large technology companies and multinational corporations. However, it can also bring significant benefits to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Bangladesh.

Today, affordable AI tools can help small businesses handle customer service, marketing, translation, market research, accounting, inventory management and demand forecasting. Tasks that once required considerable manpower and resources can now be performed more efficiently, allowing small businesses to do more with limited resources.

This is particularly important for Bangladesh, where SMEs play a vital role in employment generation and economic growth. Many, however, struggle with limited capital, weak management and inadequate access to modern technology. AI can help address some of these challenges and improve productivity.

Nevertheless, access to technology alone is not enough. Government agencies, universities, banks and business organisations should provide affordable training and guidance on using AI effectively.

With the right support, AI can help Bangladeshi SMEs become more productive, innovative and globally competitive.
