No drug traces found in doping tests of Rangpur murder suspects

No traces of drugs were found in the doping test results of Siddhartha Das and Mugdha Das, who were arrested in connection with the murder of four members of a family in Rangpur, according to Detective Branch (DB) police sources.

Urine samples from the two suspects were collected from Rangpur Central Jail on Sunday (August 30).

Police and investigators said a team, comprising DB officers and lab technologists from Rangpur Medical College, collected the samples after obtaining permission from the court. 

The samples were subsequently tested at a laboratory, which found no traces of drugs in either suspect.

Confirming the findings on Monday afternoon, Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan DB Police Sanatan Chakraborty said, ''Their samples were collected on Sunday and sent to the laboratory. We received the results today. No traces of drugs were found.''

Police arrested Siddhartha and Mugdha in the early hours of August 23 over allegations of murdering retired Rangpur Zilla School teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and his family members. Ganapati and his family were killed at their home in the early hours of August 21.

Both suspects later confessed to the killings in statements recorded before a court. In their confessional statements, they reportedly admitted to consuming nine pieces of Yaba between midnight on August 20 and the following day, before and after the murders.
