If there’s no BPL, what then?

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is not interested in organizing the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) this year, wanting to reform the tournament and start it again from next year.

Franchisees and cricketers have also agreed with the BCB to reform the BPL by taking a break for a year. The players demanded that a new tournament be organized in place of the BPL, but that won’t be happening. Rather the BCB wants to change the name of the National Cricket League T20 in a grand manner.

A top BCB director, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that they do not want to replace the BPL or any tournament, but rather make it even bigger than before. "We are not organizing any other tournament instead of the BPL. We want to make the National Cricket T20 even bigger. It will be Bangladesh First under the new name,"he said.

This tournament has been organized under the name NCL T20 for the last two years. Several cricketers have emerged from this tournament in the last two seasons, among them the mystery spinner, Mohammad Rubel, who has been captivating the top and T20 in Australia.

Even if this season didn’t go as BCB planned, foreign players may be given the opportunity to play in this tournament from the next season. The tournament may be held in the first week of December. Before that, the draft will be held.

This season too will have 6 teams in this tournament too. Teams have already been sold to 5 organizations. BCB has also completed all the contracts for NCL four-day, ODI and T20 with them.

However, there will be division-based teams in the four-day NCL. BCB will receive around 15 crore taka of sponsorship from 6 franchises. Even if the sponsor organization takes the team, BCB will handle the logistics and finances, as well as everything.
