The Cabinet on Monday unanimously approved the proposed 9th pay scale for government employees at a special meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarek Rahman.
The meeting was held at the Cabinet Room of the new No. 1 building at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Under the decision, the new pay scale will be implemented from July 1, 2026. The proposal for the new salary scale and allowances was placed before the meeting based on the recommendations of the Pay and Service Commission, 2026, and the Secretaries’ Committee.
Under the approved pay structure, salaries will increase by up to 142 per cent, while the minimum increase will be 100 per cent. The revised structure will be implemented in three phases.
The salary for Grade 1 has been fixed at Tk 156,000, while the salary for Grade 20 has been set at Tk 20,000.
According to relevant sources, the new basic salary will take effect from July 1, 2026. However, to maintain budgetary balance, the financial benefits will be paid in phases, including arrears.
Following the Cabinet’s approval, the formal process of issuing the government gazette and notification on the new pay structure is expected to begin soon. Finance Ministry sources said the notification could be issued within the next one to two weeks.
