Measles claims six more lives, 1,256 new cases reported

Six more children died with measles symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, while 1,256 children presented with measles or measles-like symptoms.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released the updated figures in a press release on Monday (August 31) afternoon.

According to the bulletin, while six children passed away exhibiting measles symptoms over the past 24 hours, no death was reported from confirmed measles cases during this period.

With the latest figures, a total of 874 children have died with measles symptoms across the country since March 15. Additionally, 99 children lost their lives after being confirmed with measles, bringing the total death toll from measles and suspected measles symptoms to 973.

Furthermore, 94 children were confirmed to have contracted measles in the past 24 hours, while 1,162 others exhibited suspected symptoms. During the same period, 1,090 new patients were admitted to hospitals, while 1,112 patients were discharged.

DGHS data indicates that from March 15 to date, the cumulative number of suspected measles cases reached 1,57,991, with 19,312 confirmed cases. Among them, a total of 1,38,445 patients required hospitalization, of whom 1,33,404 have recovered and returned home.
