China Ambassador Cup Wushu Championship set to raise the curtain on eighth edition

The eighth China Ambassador Cup Wushu Championship 2026 will raise the curtain in Dhaka on Saturday, as Bangladesh's martial arts community gathers for an event that seeks to marry sporting excellence with the enduring friendship between Bangladesh and China.

Organised by the Bangladesh Wushu Federation under the patronage of the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, the championship will be inaugurated at 10:30am at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.

Former Home and Commerce Minister Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, MP, will grace the opening ceremony as chief guest. Li Shaopeng, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, will attend as the special guest, while Bangladesh Wushu Federation president Md Saiful Islam Bhuiyan will preside over the ceremony.

Athletes, coaches, officials and other stakeholders of the sport are also expected to be in attendance.

The China Ambassador Cup has steadily carved out a place in Bangladesh's wushu calendar, offering competitors a valuable platform to test their mettle and sharpen their competitive edge. 

The seventh edition in 2025 drew 17 teams, including Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan.

Beyond the medals and the contests on the mat, the eighth edition is expected to help widen wushu's grassroots footprint, inspire a new generation to embrace sport and add another chapter to the sporting camaraderie between the two nations.
