National University stresses sports for holistic student development

GAZIPUR, SEPT 6: National University Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Md. Lutfar Rahman has stressed the importance of sports and co-curricular activities alongside academic education.

Speaking at an inaugural ceremony, he said students must participate in sports and other extracurricular activities to become well-rounded individuals. He noted that the value of such activities extends beyond earning certificates, as they help students become more humane and responsible members of society.

Rahman expressed confidence in the students participating in the competition from different colleges of Dhaka Division. He said many of them would go on to play important roles in leading Bangladesh in various fields in the future.

He urged students to take advantage of opportunities to participate in sports while continuing their academic studies. He also emphasised the importance of educational institutions providing students with opportunities to demonstrate their talents beyond the classroom.

National University Registrar Molla Mahfuz Al-Hossain, Director of the Department of Physical Education and Cultural Affairs Mohammad Shafiul Karim, and Principal of Mohammadpur Physical Education College Md. Mominul Hasan attended the inaugural ceremony.

Directors and officials from various departments of the National University, along with teachers and students from different colleges, were also present.
The event brought together students from colleges across Dhaka Division, giving them an opportunity to compete and gain experience through organised sporting activities.

The university authorities said such programmes encourage students to maintain a balance between academic studies and extracurricular pursuits. They also highlighted the importance of creating more opportunities for young people to participate in sports and showcase their abilities.

The initiative is expected to encourage greater student participation in sporting activities and strengthen the role of sports in university and college life. It also provides students with valuable exposure to competitive environments while promoting interaction among participants from different institutions across the division.
