President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for moving Bangladesh toward a politics of tolerance, urging the country to reject conflict and a cycle of revenge.

The President made the remarks on Monday while laying the foundation stone of Thakurgaon University at 11:20AM on Monday at the designated site beside the Thakurgaon-Pirganj road in the Jamalpur area of Sadar upazila.

Referring to the foundation-laying as fulfilment of a commitment made by the prime minister, the president said construction of the university would begin soon.

He described the establishment of the university as a day of joy for the people of Thakurgaon and the surrounding region, saying it would significantly expand access to higher education for people in the northern part of the country.

The foundation stone-laying marks another major step toward opening a new avenue for higher education in the region. Once established, the university is expected to create greater opportunities for students from Thakurgaon and neighbouring districts to pursue higher education.
