Father, son killed in Gazipur road crash

A father and his son were killed after being hit by a vehicle on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur's Tongi early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Tapan Chandra Das, 50, and his son Likhon Chandra Das, 20. The family hailed from Kaibartapara village in Dewan-Ganj Upazila of Sherpur and resided in the Gazipura 27-Chowrasta area under Tongi West Police Station in Gazipur City.

According to local sources, the accident occurred around 4:15 AM near Kutumbari Hotel on the eastern side of the BRT lane in the Gazipura area. Both father and son were critically injured after a vehicle struck them.

On information, Tongi East Police rescued the duo and rushed them to the Tongi Shahid Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital.

On-duty doctors at the hospital declared Likhon dead on arrival. As Tapan's condition deteriorated rapidly, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he succumbed to his injuries around 9:30 AM.

Tongi East Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Maksudul Alam said, both bodies have been kept in hospital morgues. Necessary legal procedures are underway to hand over the bodies to the family members.
