Measles, related symptoms kill 4 more children

Four children died of measles and measles-related symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 917 children were affected by the disease and its symptoms.


The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the figures in a press release on measles on Saturday afternoon.


Of the four deaths, three involved children who died with measles symptoms, while one was a confirmed measles death, the release said.


Since March 15, a total of 891 children have died with measles symptoms, while 100 have died from confirmed measles, taking the combined death toll to 991.


In the past 24 hours, 74 children were diagnosed with measles and 843 were reported with measles-related symptoms. During the period, 761 children were admitted to hospitals and 571 were discharged.


According to the DGHS, 163,105 suspected measles cases and 19,641 confirmed cases have been reported since March 15.


Of the total patients, 143,214 were admitted to hospitals, while 137,921 have been discharged.
