Depositors of Sammilito Islami Bank withdrew Tk327 crore on the second day, taking total withdrawals to around Tk581 crore in two days.
A total of 7,896 customers withdrew the money on Tuesday. On the first day, around Tk254 crore was withdrawn by 5,532 customers.
The actual withdrawal remained far below the bank’s expected demand of around Tk2,345 crore for the two days. Customers had been expected to withdraw Tk1,329 crore on the first day and Tk1,016 crore on the second.
So far, depositors have withdrawn only about 25% of the expected amount, leaving nearly Tk1,764 crore of the two-day expected withdrawal demand untouched.
The figures show that the feared rush on the new bank has not materialised, giving Sammilito Islami Bank some breathing space as it tries to rebuild depositor confidence after months of liquidity stress.
