Jamaat chief assures Nepal of support

Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari met Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman MP on Thursday, with discussions focusing on the recent natural disasters in Nepal and the two countries' longstanding friendly relations.

The meeting was held at the opposition leader's office in Parliament at around 12:45pm in a cordial atmosphere.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr Shafiqur Rahman expressed deep sorrow over the recent landslides and other natural disasters in Nepal and sought an update from the ambassador on the situation.

Ambassador Bhandari thanked the opposition leader for his sympathy and condolences, saying he appreciated his concern and efforts since the disasters began.

The ambassador briefed Dr Shafiqur on the ongoing rescue operations, the suffering of affected people and the extent of destruction and losses caused by the landslides.

In response, the Jamaat chief recalled the close and friendly relations between Bangladesh and Nepal and assured the ambassador that Jamaat-e-Islami would stand by the people of Nepal and extend support in any possible way.
