Iran has reportedly attacked a US drone surveillance ship in the Strait of Hormuz, while four unidentified objects hit two ships near Oman.
According to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, Iran had attacked a US Saildrone surveillance vessel with the hull number 5838 on Thursday (September 10). It did not provide details about the weapon used or the extent of damage.
The IRGC announced that the Strait of Hormuz was shut down and that any act of “hostile activity” would be targeted. The US military refrained from immediate comment.
Meanwhile, UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that two ships were attacked with four unidentified objects near Oman’s Khasab. One caught fire, while the condition of the other was unknown.
UKMTO said the incident was under investigation and advised vessels in the area to exercise caution.
