Russian drone strike on Ukraine mall kills 5

At least five people were killed and 67 others injured after a Russian drone struck a crowded shopping center in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk region, Ukrainian authorities reported on Thursday.

Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi confirmed that the daylight strike targeted a busy area packed with pedestrians, damaging surrounding shops, market stalls, and vehicles.

Regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha stated that eight children were among the 67 hospitalized victims, adding that emergency services worked to extinguish fires that broke out across commercial property.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed condolences to the victims' families, emphasizing that Russian forces used drones against civilians gathered near retail centers. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha characterized the strike as part of a systematic effort to inflict maximum civilian casualties and compel concessions.

Pavlohrad serves as a crucial transit hub near Dnipro and has faced repeated strikes, including a warehouse attack last month that left two dead.

The incident follows a broader wave of attacks on Ukrainian retail locations. Ukrainian officials noted that a shopping center in Sumy was struck earlier in the week, leaving two dead and over 20 wounded, while a facility in Zaporizhzhia suffered heavy damage in a separate raid.

Concurrently, Russian authorities reported that a Ukrainian maritime drone attack near the coastal city of Sochi on Wednesday night injured 28 people, including two children.
