High-level government officials, which include the minister for water resources, the prime minister’s advisor on finance and planning, and state ministers for water resources and culture, will be visiting the proposed site for the Padma Barrage project in Habaspur, Pangsha, Rajbari at 11:30 AM on Friday.
The delegation will review the proposed site, condition of the Padma river, and possible difficulties of implementing the project.
This Tk 34,497 crore project is designed to hold rainwater in order to use it in the dry season. Phase one of the project includes a 2.1-km long barrage that will have a capacity of about 2,900 million cubic meters.
The project also includes spillways, fish passages, navigation system, river dredging and hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 113 MW.
