BNP has turned from oppressed to oppressor: NCP leader

National Citizen Party (NCP) Joint Member Secretary Ahnnaf Sayeed Khan has accused the BNP government of turning from the oppressed into the oppressor after coming to power.
He made the remarks at a rally in Kishoreganj on Sunday, organised after an NCP protest march over alleged attacks, threats and false cases against the party’s leaders and activists.
The march began at Syed Nazrul Islam Chattar and ended at Kalibari intersection after parading several city streets.
“After 17 years, we thought we would not have to take to the streets repeatedly under an elected government. But after coming to power, you have turned from the oppressed into the oppressor,” Sayeed Khan said.
He warned that attacks and threats would not force NCP leaders and activists to stop their movement.
Referring to an alleged attack on NCP’s Itna upazila member secretary Afzal Hossain Shanto, he said Shanto’s leg had been broken in the attack, but such incidents would not stop the party’s movement.
Sayeed Khan also criticised the administration, alleging that authorities were reluctant to accept cases when NCP leaders and activists were attacked, while remaining silent when “fascists” held processions.
NCP leaders at the rally called for effective measures to improve law and order nationwide and control rising prices.
