Case filed against 8 including OC in Ctg

A case has been filed against eight people, including the officer-in-charge (OC) of Khulshi Police Station in Chattogram and two sub-inspectors, over allegations of attacking a house, vandalising property, looting valuables, assaulting residents and firing rubber bullets.

The case was filed by Md Javed, 66, at the Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Sunday (September 13).

Javed is the father of Wakil Hossain alias Bihari Boga, the expelled joint convener of the Chattogram Metropolitan unit of Jubo Dal.

The plaintiff’s lawyer, SM Moinul Islam, said the court ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the case.

The accused include Khulshi Police Station OC Mohammad Abdur Rahim, SIs Md Shah Paran and Md Anwar Hossain, and five others identified as Member Babu alias Jubo League Babu, Md Mizanur Rahman, Aman Ullah Aman, Arif alias “fake journalist” Arif and Asad Ullah.

According to the case statement, a group allegedly entered Javed’s house near Wireless Mor in Ward 13 of the city’s Pahartali area around 4:30 AM on September 4 and vandalised the property, looted valuables and assaulted the residents. The complainant also alleged that police fired rubber bullets during the incident.

Javed claimed that furniture, doors, windows and other belongings in his house were damaged, causing losses of around Tk3 lakh.

He further alleged that the accused entered the room of his daughter-in-law, Riekha Begum, broke open a wardrobe and took Tk8 lakh in cash and around three bhori of gold jewellery.

The complaint also alleged that Riekha was sexually harassed when she tried to resist the looting. Javed and his daughter-in-law were allegedly assaulted and injured.

When local residents came forward, police members allegedly fired rubber bullets to disperse them, injuring several people, according to the complaint.

Javed further alleged that he and his family members were threatened with being implicated in various political and drug-related cases for protesting the incident. They were also allegedly threatened with death.

The complaint said they did not seek treatment at a government hospital out of fear and instead received initial treatment from a local physician.

The complainant accused the police personnel of abusing their official powers and responsibilities by attacking him and his family members. He said he approached senior officials of the police station seeking action but, failing to receive an effective response, filed the case in court.
