Man kills sleeping father, surrenders to Police

A man allegedly hacked his sleeping father to death with a sharp weapon before surrendering to police in Meherpur’s Jhaubaria village on Monday (October 12),

The deceased was identified as Habel Sheikh, also known as Habel Uddin, a farmer and resident of the village in Meherpur Sadar upazila.

Police and local sources said the incident occurred at the victim’s home around noon. After the killing, the accused, Sahabul Islam, went directly to the police station and surrendered.

During preliminary questioning, Sahabul reportedly claimed that he had been provoked by his father’s verbal abuse. However, police and local residents suspect that a longstanding family dispute may have been behind the incident.

Meherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir said police recovered the body and sent it to Meherpur General Hospital for an autopsy.

The accused is in police custody. Further legal action will be taken following the filing of a formal complaint or case by the victim’s family, the officer added.
