Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced its mayoral candidates for the upcoming Dhaka city corporation elections, naming its Dhaka Metropolitan North unit chief Mohammad Selim Uddin for Dhaka North and Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) VP Md Abu Sadik, better known as Sadik Kayem, for Dhaka South.
Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar announced the candidates on Monday afternoon after a Seerat-un-Nabi conference.
Selim Uddin has already started grassroots activities as a mayoral candidate, while Sadik Kayem has also stepped up his outreach ahead of the election.
The announcement came a day after the National Citizen Party (NCP) announced its candidates for the two city corporations.
NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan will contest for mayor of Dhaka North, while the party’s chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari will contest for Dhaka South.
