Sarishabari crowned DC Gold Cup champions

Jamalpur, Sept 14: Sarishabari Upazila XI were crowned champions of the District Commissioner (DC) Gold Cup Football Tournament after beating Melandaha Upazila XI 4-3 on penalties in the final at Bir Muktijoddha Advocate Abdul Hakim Stadium on Sunday.

The final ended goalless in regulation time, sending the contest into a penalty shootout. Sarishabari held their nerve to edge Melandaha by a single goal and secure the title.

Sarishabari goalkeeper Mahin Rana was named Man of the Match for his performance in the final.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat MP, the chief guest, handed over the trophy to the champions after the match. State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque attended the ceremony as a special guest.

Jamalpur District Commissioner Mohammad Yousuf Ali chaired the programme. Advocate Shah Wares Ali Mamun MP, Faridul Kabir Talukder Shamim MP, Mostafizur Rahman Babul MP, Sultan Mahmud Babu MP, District Council Administrator Sirajul Haque, Police Superintendent Farhana Yasmin and Sarishabari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Afroza Afsana were also present.

Officials of the District Sports Association attended the ceremony as well.

The tournament generated considerable interest among football fans across Jamalpur, with large crowds attending matches throughout the competition. The final attracted spectators from different parts of the district, creating a festive atmosphere at the stadium as supporters of both teams cheered their sides.

The organisers said the tournament was intended to encourage young people to participate in sports and help keep them away from drug abuse and other social problems. They also said the competition would provide an opportunity to identify talented footballers at the grassroots level.

The successful tournament has given local players a competitive platform and helped strengthen interest in football among young people across the district. The organisers expressed hope that the competition would continue to contribute to the development of grassroots football in Jamalpur.
