Former Army Chief General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed did not appear before the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday to provide a statement over allegations of amassing illegal wealth through corruption and irregularities. Instead, he sought a 30 day extension to appear before the anti graft body for questioning.
Shafiuddin Ahmed was scheduled to appear at the ACC headquarters in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, at 12:30pm to record his statement. The commission had earlier issued him a notice, signed by ACC Director Md Abul Hasnat, directing him to appear before the inquiry team and bring a photocopy of his National Identity (NID) card.
The notice stated that recording his statement regarding the allegations was "essential" for a proper investigation.
